Battle of the Books
What Is Battle of the Books?
Battle of the Books is a fun competition for any student in 4th or 5th grades. These students read books from a set book list and compete in a schoolwide battle to determine which four students will represent Colvin Elementary at the district competition.
Those four students will compete against students from other participating schools, answering questions about the books. To be successful, students must know the book title, as well as details about the story, the characters, and the author.
How do I get on the team?
- First, you have to read the books on the list. The list is available in the resource links above and from your library, so be sure to get a copy.
- Next, read those books and turn in your book slips!
- Last, participate in the school battle in December.
If you win a spot on the Colvin Battle of the Books team, you will go the official Battle of the Books competition in January.Go to the WPS TV webpage to see past battles and livestream the current battles!
Guide to Book Care
- Keep your books in a safe place.
- Return your books on time.
- Do not eat or drink while reading library books.
- Wash and dry your hands before reading library books.
- Keep books away from pets and little ones. They do not know how to take care of books!
- Never draw or write in a library book!
- Always use a bookmark!
- If the library book has been damaged, bring it to your librarian. They will repair it if they can. DO NOT REPAIR THE BOOK YOURSELF! Your librarian has the right tools and training to fix books.
- If you lose your book or it is damaged while in your care, you will need to pay to replace it. Talk to your librarian.
