Colvin is the Reading Place

Every year we have more and more students reading on or above grade level.
Colvin students are truly becoming readers. If you walk into a Colvin classroom
you will see all the students engaged in their learning. Frequently you will
observe small groups of students discussing together the questions or reading
selections. Colvin students are fabulous team members and make sure their peers
are learning and understanding,. Once again, Colvin received high praise
and continues to
improve in our reading program. We will continuously be working to get better at
what we do, until every student in our building is reading
above grade level.
Parents, students, and staff are working hard to make Colvin the Reading Place.

May Day Celebration. Events include May Pole, singing, bucket drums, May day queen
and her court are just a few of the activities that take place during the
afternoon celebration. The students spend many hours planning and practicing
under the direction of music teachers Mr. Olson, and Ms. Walton along with the help of
the PE teachers, Mr. Swisher and Ms. Rhodes.
Family Math Night
A Big Success
In February hundreds of Colvin families experienced a
mini math lesson. Family Math Night was an opportunity
for parents to learn about what happens each day in their child’s math class.
In addition, parents and students left at the end of the evening with a math activity to do at home.
Smart Boards were used to demonstrate math in each classroom.
If was wonderful to watch so many moms, dads, and children having fun together
with math. Additional Family Math Nights are planned for individual teams
throughout the school year. Your child’s teacher will be sending home
information when their team Family Math Night is approaching.

Colvin students learn about Internet safety with First Gentleman
and Judge Gary Sebelius, and Faux Paw the Techno Cat.
