Colvin Elementary focuses on essential subject areas in order to prepare its students for a successful future. Academic components of Colvin include 150 minutes per day with reading block, reading interventions and writing. We also have 90 minutes of math block and math interventions each day. This special learning community also has PE and the arts, and Speakers for Other Languages. Technology is integrated into the subject areas. Parents have numerous opportunities to become involved with their children in the learning community with a specialized Parent Involvement Program. Colvin Elementary is connected to the community with the Planeview Community Library and Recreation Center through the Wichita City Parks and Recreation Program, which provides opportunities for all ages.
Colvin is in the heart of a diverse neighborhood in south Wichita. It is connected to a neighborhood center which integrates children, parents and community members. It is a model school for the future, which connects students, parents, teachers and the community for the purpose of helping children to soar to new academic heights. Colvin is known as the “Reading Place.”
