Dear Colvin Parents,

The Wichita Public Schools have been awarded a PEP Grant for physical educations classes. PEP stands for Physical Education for    Progress. This is a federal grant from the office of safe and drug free schools. This will mean that some of the schools will be receiving extra money to buy physical education equipment. Colvin is one of those schools. In addition to buying more equipment there will special curricular activities in our PE classes.

Many students in Wichita are below the healthy zone for cardio    respiratory fitness and also many are overweight.

One of the special activities will be for Colvin to have a “Family   Fitness Night” at a local YMCA.  This fits right in with the overall goal to increase physical activity during physical education class and outside of the class and to promote a health enhancing level of fitness, to      improve motor skills, and to teach students the importance of good     nutrition.  The ultimate goal is for Wichita students to become more physically active, healthy individuals through the implementation of various specific strategies. Together we can make a difference in the health and wellness of our students.
