At Easter time, Unkrainian women make decorated
eggs called Pysanky. ·
The eggs are brightly colored, and covered with intricate designs
and traditional symbols. ·
The designs are handed down from mother to daughter over many
generations. ·
Each egg is unique and specially designed for the person receiving
it. ·
My second grade art students have designed their own Pysanky eggs
and these have done an exceptional job.

Enlargements

After
choosing one frame from a comic strip, my fourth grade art students drew a grid
over their cartoons. They then drew a
larger grid with 1” squares on an 11” x 18” sheet of white drawing paper. Following the comic strip grid, they
proceeded to reproduce the drawing square by square. They were forced to really look at each part of the comic strip
to figure out how to enlarge their own drawing and make it look real.

Fifth Grade Art – Extended Christmas Cards

Each
student chose a Christmas card, placed it in the center of their paper then
problem-solved to figure out how the picture would look, extended beyond the
card’s edges. These students’ projects
were chosen to represent their classes as highly successful solutions.
